Judy Chin’s makeup concepts, designs and creative leadership have manifest across a remarkable range of collaborations with film visionaries including director Darren Aronofsky to create the iconic, BAFTA-nominated makeup for Black Swan.
Chin’s long-term work with director Aronofsky spans from her OSCAR and BAFTA award-winning makeup for The Whale; head of department for Mother!, and Noah; key makeup artistry for The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream, and makeup design for The Fountain.
Chin was makeup department head for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, The Post, and Bridge of Spies and collaborator with Jim Jarmusch on the makeup for The Dead Don’t Die, Broken Flowers, Coffee & Cigarettes and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.
Chin’s work with writer and director Julie Taymor began within the BAFTA award-winning makeup and hair team for Frida, followed by makeup department head for Across the Universe, The Tempest, and The Glorias.
Her creative spectrum is also shown in her work as makeup department head for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tick, tick…BOOM!, Alejandro Iñárritu’s Birdman, Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche; and as key makeup artist on Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, and Rebecca Miller’s The Ballad of Jack and Rose.
Chin has a longstanding collaboration with the actor Jennifer Connelly that began with her makeup concepts for Requiem for a Dream (dir. Darren Aronofsky) and includes American Pastoral (dir. Ewan McGregor), Money Monster (dir. Jodie Foster), Stuck in Love (dir. Josh Boone), The Dilemma (dir. Ron Howard), Blood Diamond (dir. Edward Zwick), Winter’s Tale (dir. Avika Goldsman) and House of Sand and Fog (dir. Vadim Perelman).
She has also been personal makeup artist to actor Rachel Weisz, including for, Disobedience (dir. Sebastián Lelio), Oz the Great and Powerful (dir. Sam Raimi), The Fountain (dir. Darren Aronofsky), Dream House (dir. Jim Sheridan) and the TV series Dead Ringers, based on Bari Wood’s novel Twins.
